Wild Rumpus 'Lanterns at Chester Zoo', Assisting Alison Duddle

I spent some time assisting puppet maker Alison duddle in her studio creating these large scale mandrill puppets to be a part of the annual lantern event at Chester zoo. I used worbla, heated and formed over a clay sculpt, to capture the hands and feet. These were done in sections before being joined off of the clay. I also created the shape for the back legs, starting with a sketch with initial measurements before creating a toil. Once the base shape was correct I translated the information to create a pattern. I think these shapes work really well all together with the rest of the puppet.

I really enjoyed my time in the studio; working alongside a talented puppet maker like alison was amazing as I was able to understand each stage of the process.
